Southern Piedmont Education Opportunity Center

The Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) is a non-profit program administered by Danville Community College and funded by the U.S. Department of Education to serve participants in Franklin, Halifax, Henry, Patrick, and Pittsylvania counties, and the cities of Danville and Martinsville.

The purpose of the EOC is to provide assistance to individuals having a desire to enter or re-enter a program of post-secondary education.  Education Specialists provide assistance with career decision making, admissions, and applying for financial aid.  The goal is to help individuals enroll in GED programs, technical programs, or two or four-year colleges and universities.

The Educational Opportunity Center’s main office is located in the Wyatt Building Room 109 on the Danville Community College campus.

TRIO UPWARD BOUND AT DANVILLE COMMUNITY COLLEGE

TRIO Upward Bound is funded by the U.S. Department of Education and has been a focal point of Danville Community College (DCC) since 1999.  The DCC TRIO Upward Bound Program is designed to assist high school students from low-income, first generation backgrounds plan and  prepare for postsecondary enrollment immediately after high school graduation.

Danville Community College’s (DCC) TRIO Upward Bound Program serves fifty eligible high school students in the City of Danville, VA and the Pittsylvania County region.Target high schools are Chatham High School; Dan River High School; George Washington High School; Langston Focus Center; and Galileo Magnet High School.  This program works to achieve six mandatory objectives established by the U. S. Department of Education.  Program objectives may include, but are not limited to, the development of a structured, individualized academic plan for rigorous coursework in secondary education.  This program’s comprehensive plan includes evaluative services for academic achievement and increased proficiency levels as measured by state assessment tests in reading/language arts and math.  Additional services address the program objectives to ensure student success.
